The Winnipeg Foundation & CCEDNet - Manitoba Announce IRP Round 2 Recipients

The Winnipeg Foundation and the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet) - Manitoba are pleased to announce the results from Round 2 of the Investment Readiness Program, with $443,975 in non-repayable capital contributed to 12 social purpose organizations serving Manitoba communities.

In August of 2020, the first round of recipients receiving support through the Investment Readiness Program was announced. The Winnipeg Foundation and the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet) - Manitoba have again engaged a collaborative mix of partners, including foundations, charities, co-operatives, businesses, and economic development organizations to bring these resources into the community. This round a total of 32 applications were reviewed.

The recipients of these non-repayable capital contributions are involved in: creating important opportunities for Indigenous communities, supporting meaningful jobs, strengthening the charitable and non-profit sector, and addressing social and environmental challenges. These organizations often face challenges unique to their innovative blend of business practice and social impact. As a result of these new funds, organizations will be better prepared to stabilize or scale up their work and potentially receive investment, including through the Government of Canada’s developing Social Finance Fund.

Organizations supported in the second round of the IRP include:

  • $50,000 - Aki Foods

  • $43,000 - Mother Earth Recycling

  • $50,300 - Diversity Food Services

  • $20,000 - Social Entrepreneurship Enclave

“This second round of the IRP builds on Manitoba’s history of social innovation and addressing community needs” said Alan Goodard, director of Endow Manitoba, an initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation.

“We’re very proud of the social impact created by Manitoba’s social purpose organizations. The pandemic has served to shine extra light on their responsiveness and resilience as critical contributors to community health” says Darcy Penner, Manitoba Network Manager for CCEDNet.

Social purpose organizations strengthen local economies while giving back and creating more resilient and sustainable communities. The IRP creates and advances new earned revenue possibilities for the critical role charities, non-profits, and cooperatives play, especially during this challenging time. For these reasons, the IRP has a key role to play in pandemic recovery and also in moving Canada towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals., which  They promote prosperity while protecting people and our planet.
